St Clare’s blessed and officially opened

Foundation Principal Chris Thomas joined Foundation prep students Ryan Harris
and Indigo Munoz to cut a celebration cake

ARCHBISHOP Mark Coleridge praised the work of foundation staff, students and parents at the blessing and official opening of St Clare’s Primary School at Yarrabilba.

Archbishop Coleridge said the blessing of a school was a celebration for both the students and teachers as well as the surrounding community.

“It not only is my duty to be here but it a sincere pleasure to open this new school,” he said.

“I have a sense of great pride to follow the journey of St Clare’s.”

APRE Janette welcomed guests including Monsignor Peter Meneely, Fr Jon Conway, Fr Tony Girvan, Missionary Franciscan Sr Catherine White, BCE Executive Director Pam Betts, Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz and State Member for Logan Linus Power as well as parents and friends to the celebrations.

She explained the name Clare meant ‘light’ in many languages.

“We know St Clare had a positive and optimistic vision for the future of the world in which we live,” she said.

“We pray today that, with care and God’s blessing each of us at St Clare’s will be able to ‘Live in the Light’.

“That is, to live with Christ as our example and embrace the values espoused by the Franciscans of simplicity, humility, love for the poor and searching for God in all things.”

Principal Chris Thomas said it was fantastic to welcome so many honourable guests to the special celebration.

“To have so many people here who had a part in making this school what it is today, I just have to thank you all,” he said.

“We have been operational for just over 100 days and we have 122 students here, but we are growing every day.

“Being Foundation principal and hosting this blessing is one of the best things to happen so far.”

Ms Betts said the school was the first St Clare’s in the archdiocese.

“It is just great to be celebrating the first 23 weeks of this new school,” she said.

“It is also fitting that we are hosting today’s blessing in Catholic Education Week.

“God has shone his light on us today.”

Following the official blessing ceremony, Mr Buchholz and Mr Power unveiled two plaques.

Mr Buchholz said it was great to see the new facilities first hand and to realise the impact they would have on students’ learning potential.

He said the new facilities would be an asset to all students and teachers at St Clare’s Primary School.

“I hope the students will enjoy learning and be inspired by these new facilities to put their thinking caps on and come up with great ideas to help make our world a better place,” he said.
