Mckenzie rides against MS for Mum

Mckenzie Edwards and Matt Cranny were top fundraisers for Seton College’s
Brissie to the Bay Bikeathon efforts

THIS year’s Brissie to the Bay Bikeathon was extra special for one passionate Seton College, Mt Gravatt East, student.

Mckenzie Edwards joined Team Seton for the annual bikeathon, which raises money and awareness about Multiple Sclerosis (MS) to support her mother, Suzanne, who suffered from the debilitating disease.

In the lead up to the bike ride, both Mckenzie and fellow student, Matt Cranny, swapped places as the Team Seton Legend Fundraiser leader.

However, Mckenzie overtook Matt with a last-minute donation to eventually raise $1700 for research into finding a cure for the disease that can affect any age group.

Matt, who had previously been the highest MS fundraiser for the last two years, followed close behind.

Mckenzie said she was passionate about the MS cause because every day she witnessed her mother deal with the ups and downs of living with the disease.

“I would like to see a cure so she can enjoy life to the fullest,” she said.

Her mother has also spoken from the heart several times at assemblies to Seton College students, explaining what it was like to live with MS and encouraging them to join the team.

Matt, who also had a close relative with MS, said he saw the bikeathon as a wonderful opportunity to be involved in an event that brought the Seton College community together for a great cause.

More than 90 riders and many supporters joined the ride this year, as they lived the Seton motto ‘Lift up your Hearts’ to change lives for the better.

Team Seton captain, Tonti Connolly, said it was a great effort by all those involved in the bikeathon.

“This is a proud tradition that has been running at Seton for 17 years with a total contribution to MS of approaching $200,000, an amazing feat for one of the smallest high schools in Brisbane.

“Seton College has led all other schools in Brisbane as largest team of riders and highest educational fundraising team,” he said.
