TEAM work and tenacity proved positive for the Netball team from St Kieran's Primary School when they attended their first Samsung Primary Schools Cup in Bundaberg.

St Kieran's team finished the carnival with four wins and finished fourth in their Division 4 pool.

The competition was massive with more than 100 teams from all over Queensland competing in 20 round robin pools.

After day one, teams were ranked into six divisions for the second day of competition to ensure each team could play opposition similar in ability.

St Kieran's improved with each game played and, by the last game of day two, they were all on fire.

The ball was passed quickly down court and goals were scored resulting in a very exciting win for the team who beat Woongarra State School seven goals to three.

St Kieran's Principal Ben Gray said it was a great effort from the players, coaches and supporters who represented the school so well in Bundaberg.

“They played in 11 games in total and gave it their all," Ben said.

“They kept up their determination in every game even when legs were aching, and bodies were asking for a rest in the hot Bundaberg conditions.

“I really couldn't ask for any more from the team."

Ben said it was the first time St Kieran's competed in the competition.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for our students who displayed outstanding sportsmanship and teamwork."

The Samsung Primary Schools Cup, an initiative of Netball Queensland, was open to all primary schools in Queensland for students in grades four to six.

The two-day event provided an opportunity for girls and boys to come together and experience competitive netball in a fun and safe environment, with an overall state champion crowned at the end of the tournament.
