ST John Fisher College, Bracken Ridge, welcomed back four former principals for the blessing and official opening of new facilities.

Dean of Brisbane North East, Fr Gerry Hefferan, blessed the new facilities, which include, an indoor sport centre, an Arts/Technology centre, two new drama spaces, a new Science laboratory, a new Home Economics kitchen, a Student Services Centre and major refurbishment and landscaping work.

Following the blessing BCE Executive Director Pam Betts and State member for Sandgate officially opened the facilities with the unveiling of a plaque.

The total cost of this project was almost $7.7 million of which Queensland State Government provided almost $2m as part of the ‘Year 7 to Secondary’ funding and the college community contributed the remaining $5.7m.

This was a significant investment in the future of the college and its students.

It also was a special occasion for the college community to welcome to the opening four of the past five principals including Foundation Principal Pat Condon, Robyn Killoran, Vicki Ward and Mandy Anderson.

Other special guests included Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth, former student Georgia Boon, who represented Councillor Jared Cassidy, School Service Centre North Acting Director Derek Maclean and St Joseph’s School Principal Gary Creevey.

Principal Maree Messer said the college prides itself on a strong Catholic ethos where students are encouraged to improve themselves socially, culturally and morally as well as to strive to achieve their academic goals and the values of respect and integrity are of upmost importance.

She said the completion of the massive building and refurbishment project enabled the college to provide a 21st century learning environment and space to take it well into the future.

The morning concluded with a morning tea provided for all staff and special guests which was served in the new courtyard area outside the new Arts/Technology Centre.
