STUDENTS at Our Lady of Fatima School were the inspiration behind a new playground at the Acacia Ridge school.

A group of Years 5 and 6 students approached staff last year to discuss the need for a playground for older students.

Principal Damian Gambley said the older students did not think it was safe for the Prep to Year 6 to be playing on the same equipment.

“They thought students in the older years needed to have play equipment that was more age appropriate,” he said.

“They also felt it was important they had some space where they could have age-appropriate conversations without impacting on younger students.”

Students were engaged in the final decision, including deciding on the best colours for the equipment.

“After good, constructive conversations, we decided on a design, as well as a good place for the playground to go,” Damian said.
