Curriculum Matters is a publication which is of interest to teachers and parents. It focuses on:

Curriculum Matters Vol 7 No 1, 2008

 

Articles focus on AGQTP inquiry learning and teaching and digital literacy in the classroom projects undertaken by teachers.

There is also a report on a research project undertaken by the University of Queensland in BCE schools around sustaining changes to literacy practices, and an article on inquiry in teaching and learning in the KLA of English.

This was the first of two SOSE related editions of Curriculum Matters. The articles focus on the key values of Peace and Social Justice and the covers represent winning posters from the peace poster Competition for Primary schools associated with the ANZAC Day Commemoration Committee of Queensland. Class 5G, St Mary’s Primary School Ipswich, created the front cover; the back page was created by Year 2P/F St Joseph’s Primary School Bardon.

This issue showcases a number of special projects undertaken by educators in Catholic schools in the Brisbane Archdiocese. They range from Religious Education, Oral Language provision to a single online learning project. In addition there is a report from the Science Teachers’ Association Conference (CONSTAC) as well as an account of an intensive training program for teachers of Japanese held in Japan.

This edition centres on Literacy and Numeracy, the Learning Framework, SOSE and Consistency of Teacher Judgement. Three articles relate to different aspects of literacy and numeracy emerging from the Literacy and Numeracy conference held during the year. There is an article on how a Literacy Block is organised for a primary classroom, an article on the reviewed Archdiocesan Literacy and Numeracy Plan and how problem-solving activities in a ‘market economy’ assist the development and application of literacy and numeracy skills.

The edition includes an article on an innovative learner centred approach to LOTE and SOSE from a secondary school perspective and finally an article on planning for intra and inter consistency of teacher judgement within a cluster of schools.
