Early Years Education

Children in the early years of schooling are provided with a holistic, outcomes based curriculum which is responsive to each child’s diverse and unique spiritual, social, emotional learning and developmental needs and circumstances. (Early Year’s Policy Statement for Brisbane Catholic Education Schools). During these years children have access to continuity in their learning.  This is enhanced through the establishment and maintenance of effective, collaborative partnerships within the learning community and learning experiences which are relevant and meaningful, and activity based.

Introduction of the Preparatory Year

The Education and Training Reform for the Future (ETRF) agenda in Queensland has provided a particular emphasis for early years education with the introduction of a preparatory (prep) year.  Prep is about establishing strong foundations for success in life long learning and empowering the child to make transitions through-out their schooling and into the world of work.

Prep children will be participating in learning programs which are informed by the school’s own learning policy, the philosophies inherent in Brisbane Catholic Education Early Years Policy Statement and The Early Years Curriculum (Queensland Studies Authority) which is founded on active, inquiry and play based learning.
