Queensland Certificate of Education

The proportion of Brisbane Catholic Education students completing school with a Queensland Certificate of Education or Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement increased from 94% in 2017 to 95.5% in 2018.

The proportion of students with an OP 1-15 also increased from 79.9% in 2017 to 80.3% in 2018. In 2018 the number (92) and percentage (93%) of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students receiving a Queensland Certificate of Education at the end of Year 12, increased from 82 and 85% in 2017.

Vocational Education and Training

Vocational Education and Training (VET) continues to be a significant aspect of senior learning in Brisbane Catholic Education schools. In 2018, 4,423 VET Certificates were awarded to 2,318 of the 3,491 students who completed Year 12. Further, 63% (1,461) of students attained a VET Certificate III or higher.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education

Brisbane Catholic Education supports an enduring commitment to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through education. Brisbane Catholic Education supports the national initiatives to improve educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through our vision to teach, challenge and transform.

The key strategy to close the gap in learning achievement and exceed learning expectations for each Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learner is the Molum Sabe (The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Strategy 2017-20).

The total number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students attending Brisbane Catholic Education schools rose from 1,813 in 2017 to 1,833.

The number of schools with more than 5% of the student population identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander increased from 20 in 2017 to 22.

The enrolments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students increased substantially between 2017 and 2018 in Years 2, 4, 6, 9 and 10.

A total of 11,283 students from 107 Brisbane Catholic Education primary schools visited Ngutana-lui. State and independent primary schools, and several community groups also visited the centre.
