Submitting your application


Online applications

  • All applications must be submitted online via the BCE Employment website. 
  • Full information about the vacancy can be accessed by clicking on the Job Name.  
  • You will be asked to create an account the first time you apply to a BCE vacancy and for subsequent applications will only need to log in using your email account and secure password.
  • The online application requires you to write a ‘Letter of Application’ which takes the place of a ‘cover letter.’ All vacancies require a resume to be uploaded.
  • Proof of eligibility to work within Australia is a requirement for employment with Brisbane Catholic Education and will be required at the point of employment.
  • Some positions may require you to respond to eligibility and/or selection criteria.
  • You may be prompted in the online application to provide scanned copies of your qualifications and supporting documentation (if applicable). If you do not have these documents available at the time of application, you can provide these at interview.

Eligibility & selection criteria

  • Eligibility and Selection criteria are used to determine your suitability for the role. You will only be asked to respond to eligibility and selection criteria that are relevant to the position you are applying for. 
  • Eligibility criteria are requirements that you must meet to be considered for the position. For example a current and valid drivers’ licence if required to drive a vehicle in the performance of the role.
  • Selection criteria are characteristics, skills or experiences that demonstrate your suitability to perform the job successfully. Selection criteria can sometimes be described as desirable criteria.
  • All positions require applicants to indicate their commitment to and support for the ethos of Catholic Education.


Submitting your application & closing dates

  • Ensure you have fully completed all sections of the application form and that you submit your application by the closing date and time.
  • You will receive email confirmation once your application is submitted.
  • Once you submit your application, you will no longer have access to edit or add information.
  • If you have not completed your application, you will receive a reminder email 3 days prior to the closing date.


Closing date

  • It is important to note both the closing date and time for submitting applications as all applications must be complete and submitted prior to this time.
  • BCE will not necessarily accept late applications.

How will my application be assessed?


Selection panel

A selection panel will be formed for all advertised positions. The panel will consist of at least two members, the Panel Chair (normally the hiring principal/manager) and another person who has suitable skills and experience. 


The panel will review your application and resume. Applicants who meet all eligibility criteria will then be assessed on their ability to fulfil the selection criteria.  If shortlisted you will be contacted and invited to interview. 


You will be interviewed by the Panel Chair and the selection panel.  You will be asked about your capacity to fulfil the role and have an opportunity to ask questions.

Who should I provide as my referees and when will you call them?

You are asked to provide a current/previous principal/line manager and a second professional referee contact. Some positions will also ask for a religious referee if relevant to the role.

Ensure you inform your referees that you have nominated them as a referee prior to providing their contact details.

How long should the process take?

At BCE we complete each recruitment process as quickly as possible. Shortlisting is usually completed within two weeks of the closing date. If there is to be an extended period between the closing date and shortlisting process, you will be notified where possible.

Will I be notified if I am not successful?

If you were not successful in being shortlisted, you will be advised via email. If you were interviewed, the hiring principal or manager will phone you. 

Can I ask for feedback on my application?

If you would like feedback on your application, please contact the hiring principal directly at the school.  For Brisbane Catholic Education Office positions, contact the panel chair directly or Recruitment Services on 3033 7572 or email 

Will I be considered for similar roles?

You need to apply specifically to each role for which you wish to be considered.

In some circumstances, a principal or manager may indicate your suitability for another similar position and encourage you to apply or offer you a short-term contract.
