Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) is proud to offer Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduating students the opportunity to apply for an Information Technology (IT) Traineeship, for those interested in pursuing a career in a booming industry.

In line with BCE’s commitment to reconciliation, the traineeship aims to help First Nations students build knowledge and hone their skills in their favoured IT discipline.

The traineeship is full time for two years with the first 12 months focused around four key areas of IT, followed by a year in the field of their choice.

The four IT functional areas include:
  • Digital Platforms – Service Desk and Desktop Support
  • Strategy, Risk and Governance – Security
  • Digital Solutions – Systems and Platforms
  • ICT Engagement – Digital Skills Delivery

BCE’s Manager of Business Engagement and IT, and RAP Committee Representative, Kerry Edwards-Williams, said the traineeship aims to not only build IT skills and provide the former students with a qualification, but also build confidence and leadership skills.

“At BCE we are committed to reconciliation and inclusion of First Nations peoples and this traineeship allows our graduates to train in a highly regarded and sought-after profession,” she said.

“The traineeship is designed to give them the opportunity to experience various aspects of IT before deciding on an area of interest.

The experience along with the qualification can later bridge the graduates into higher education study or other workplaces.

“The program aims to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates with the opportunity to be part of an industry which is both a fast growing and a secure profession.

“I am excited to see what the future holds for BCE’s First Nations graduates and I know this program will help build many influential role models.

Ultimately, it is our wish that we provide our trainees with an opportunity that sets them up to succeed in their chosen career.
