Five times the joy - St William’s Primary School welcomes record number of twins in Prep

19/01/2024
FIVE times the amount of fun is about to be had at St William’s Primary School, with a record-breaking number of twins set to start Prep at the Grovely school.

The five sets of twins in Prep familiarised themselves with their new school playground, joining together for a special photoshoot on Thursday 18 January ahead of their first day of ‘big school’ (23 January).

St William’s Primary School Principal Nick Fogarty says, “we are excited to welcome the students and families into the school community.”

"This will certainly turn heads," he says.

"Throughout my three decades as an educator, I've never seen such an extraordinary surge of twins entering Prep.

"We feel immensely lucky to welcome five more sets of twins to our school community, joining nine other sets of twins in Years 1,2,3,5 and 6.”

Nick added that three out of the five sets of twins starting Prep are identical.

"With so many twins about, it’s time for me to learn to distinguish between them,” he says.

Keperra parent Kathryn Deasy says her twins Alex and Zach are very excited to start Prep alongside the other sets of twins.

“We couldn’t believe it,” she says.

“Sometimes as a parent of twins you can feel you’re the only one.

“But it’s reassuring to know they won’t be alone, and they will have four other sets of twins starting school alongside them.”

Kathryn adds the twins are very excited to finally get to go to ‘big school’ with their older brother Angus, who is in Year 3.

“The twins have told me they are looking forward to making new friends at school,” she says.

“We went to the uniform shop last week and they have been wearing their school hats around the house.”

The five sets of twins in Prep are 10 of 485 students ready to head back to school at St William’s Primary School on 23 January 2024.
