Heading up the oldest Catholic school on the northside of Brisbane was the goal of new Principal Simon Mahaffy, who is starting at Holy Cross Primary School Wooloowin.

In his second principalship, Simon said he’d set his sights on a Principal role at the school with significant cultural heritage.

“I’m a huge history buff, I am thrilled to be the new Principal of a school so rich in Brisbane history,” he said.

“I have a strong connection to faith, which is another reason I was drawn to Holy Cross.

“I am looking forward to continuing on the great work of the staff and Father Peter, to enliven and connect our students to faith tradition and engage them in contemporary liturgy and prayer.”

Simon, who is moving from the role of Head of Campus at Southern Cross College Kippa Ring, said he’s excited to lead his new school community and be part of the staff group.

“I’ve made it my mission as a school leader to stand at the front gate and welcome and say goodbye to students at the beginning and end of each day,” he said.

“For me. this is an important action. It’s a way to connect with students, get to know them individually, and create connection and belonging within a school community.”

Simon’s leadership experience includes Head of Campus at Southern Cross College Kippa Ring; Acting Principal Our Lady of the Assumption School Enoggera; Assistant Principal Religious Education Our Lady of the Assumption School Enoggera; Education Officer Catholic Identity IMARE; Assistant Principal Religious Education All Saints Primary School Albany Creek and Acting Assistant Principal Religious Education St Pius Primary School Banyo.
