Marymount Primary School Burleigh Waters hosted a night of joy and community spirit on Thursday 28 November, with their inaugural Carols on the Green event.

More than 1,000 students and over 2,000 parents, and family, and community members, gathered on the school grounds to enjoy a magical evening filled with student performances, a special visit from Santa, and a dazzling laser light show.

Marymount Primary School Acting Principal Melissa Sewell said their first Carols on the Green was magical and brought our whole community closer together in the true spirit of Christmas”.

“We are a large, proud school community, and this event allowed us to come together in a way that truly celebrates our spirit and unity,” she said.

“Seeing each Year level up on stage, singing their hearts out and filling the air with Christmas cheer, was truly special.

“It was a heartwarming sight to see all our families gathered in one place—relaxing on picnic rugs, sharing laughter, enjoying delicious food, and savouring the joy of simply being together as a whole school community.

“Events like this remind us of the strength and warmth of our school community and the bonds we share.

“We’re so grateful to be able to celebrate the holiday season surrounded by our Marymount family.”

Melissa also said she was grateful to the school’s Parents & Friends (P&F) Association for bringing this idea to life.

“It was one of our P&F who came up with the vision for Carols on the Green,” she said.

“This event really highlights what we can achieve as a school community, and I’m so appreciative of the support and dedication our P&F poured into making it all happen.

“The parent community here at Marymount Primary School is incredibly active and engaged.

We’re so fortunate to have such committed families who want to make a difference not just in the lives of our students but our broader community.

“We can’t wait to make this an annual tradition at our school.”

Marymount Primary School P&F Project Manager and Mother of Year 4 student Cruz Vicki Rane said, “working closely with Acting Principal Melissa Sewell, it has been a pleasure working as a team to bring this event together for our 50-year golden anniversary”.

“I know this event will bring many fond members for years to come for our students and the broader community,” she said.

Adding to the excitement, the P&F Association organised a Mega Christmas raffle, featuring over 100 prizes and over $12,300 in value, generously donated by local community businesses and Marymount College family owned businesses.
