Principal Bec O’Connor and St Joseph’s students eager for back to school with brand new classrooms now complete!

The St Joseph's Primary School community is jumping for joy with a $3.1 million classroom upgrade now complete.

The Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) funded upgrade includes the construction of four new colourful general learning areas, and one learning support area equipped with $60,000 worth of flexible furniture and technology, televisions, and a hearing augmentation system to suit the diverse needs of students.

The build also includes the completion of a new toilet block, and two storerooms.

St Joseph's Primary School Gayndah Principal Bec O'Connor said her students cannot wait for the first day back to school.

“I can't wait to hear the excited hum of learning in these brand-new classrooms on our first day back to school," she said.

“Our students and school community could not be more eager to start the school year learning in environments that complement the high-quality teaching that takes place here at St Joseph's.

“It has been a long road to reach this milestone, a project that started approximately 10 years ago has finally come to fruition.

“This new building is critical to improving our school and our ability to focus on what our core business is - teaching and learning."

Principal O'Connor added “these new classrooms will not only bring many new memories but also many new opportunities for students."

“Since 1998 our former classrooms have serviced generations of families, learners, teachers, school officers, and the Sisters of the Good Samaritan," she said.

“As a school community we have had many conversations about this building project…from the learning spaces, colour selections and layouts to lighting and sound proofing, in order to consider the many generations of students who will come and learn at St Joseph's.

“Our heartfelt thanks to InSite Construction, Architect Mark Gibson, BCE Building Officer Patrick Greene, and our countless local trades who have turned our dream into a reality."

St Joseph's Primary School Parents and Friends President Sam Euler said, “the building looks amazing."

“The classroom designs and fixtures are extraordinary," she said.

“It's incredible to see our school and BCE investing further into our children's future, by providing these world class spaces for our children to grow as learners."

Brisbane Catholic Education looks forward to the Opening and Blessing of these new facilities, scheduled for June 2023.
