As the school gates swing open on 23 January, Star of the Sea School is preparing to welcome a tidal wave of new students embarking on their educational journey, including at least 52 new Preps.
As the Merrimac school enters its third year of operation, Star of the Sea School Principal Tony Barron says he has witnessed a 300 per cent increase in enrolments across all year groups since we first opened.
“We opened the school in 2022 with just 44 students – and three years later we have grown to 176 students and are master planned to grow to around 580 students by 2032,” he said.
“The boom is a testament to our school’s commitment to nurturing not just academic excellence but also inclusive and supportive learning environments.
“Our community is fast-growing, with lots of families moving to the area.
“Our school has captured the attention of young families seeking world-class educational opportunities for their children in the heart of Merrimac.
“With so much interest in our school from local families, we plan to expand to three classes per year by 2026.”
Aimee Eslick, a Mudgeeraba parent, praises Star of the Sea School as the perfect fit for her children.
Everly will start in Prep on Tuesday 23 January, following her big brother Peyton, who is in Year 2 and was the first student enrolled when the school opened.
"Our Principal Tony has fostered incredible growth in just three years,” Aimee says.
“He's not your typical Principal, he brings fun to our school, creating a tight-knit community where everyone feels involved."
Aimee adds her daughter is eager to start school.
"She’s been wearing her uniform to day-care,” she says.
“We always wanted our children in a Brisbane Catholic Education school and having one closer to Mudgeeraba fulfills this hope.”
