Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education

Acknowledgement of Country

Brisbane Catholic Education acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which our school communities and offices stand. We recognise and honour the unique position of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia’s First Peoples who have had a spiritual and sacred relationship with this land for thousands of years. We respect the diversity of our First Nation’s peoples: their histories, cultures, knowledges and continuing deep spiritual connection to the land, seas and waterways. We acknowledge and pay our respects to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues who continue their work and dedication to Brisbane Catholic Education's vision and mission for Reconciliation.

We respectfully acknowledge all Elders past, present and emerging and thank them for their wisdom, sharing of knowledge and guidance as we look toward a united future for our younger generations. We recognise the importance of listening to the voices of our First Nations People and continue to walk together in unity toward genuine Reconciliation across Brisbane Catholic Education’s community of schools: connecting hearts, minds and spirits.

Molum Sabe Education Strategy

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students fully engage and thrive as learners when their spirituality, histories and cultures are honoured and valued. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students become active learners when trust and respect are visible and embedded in the school community. Students become strong and confident in their identity and capacity to achieve when high expectations are set by themselves, their families, schools, and communities.

Brisbane Catholic Education recognises the importance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to see themselves reflected in the school and curriculum, and for all students to come to an understanding of First Nations histories, cultures, identities and spiritualities. Within our extensive sphere of influences across our many schools and offices, we are committed to embedding First Nations perspectives through Australian Curriculum V9.
