As part of BCE’s ongoing capital works investment, students and staff at Sophia College Plainlands and St Clare’s Yarrabilba are benefiting from new, cutting-edge learning facilities.

Sophia College students are enjoying several new state-of-the-art learning spaces, including a modern library and an innovative six-room hub designed to foster creativity and collaboration.

As part of Stage 3 of the College’s Master Plan, the 19-hectare campus, which opened in early 2021, has since expanded to accommodate growing enrolments.

Sophia College Principal Narelle Dobson said students, staff and parents were pleased with the new areas and appreciated being part of a school community that supported initiatives for contemporary learning experiences.

“They are excited to be a part of a school that foregrounds the future of learning, and which prioritises different learning styles so that all students can succeed,” she said.

The major infrastructure upgrade has enhanced existing facilities while introducing new spaces carefully designed to support individualised learning experiences.

“We have designed the facilities in line with our belief that each student is an individual who embraces learning in their own unique way as they aspire to be more,” she said.

A standout feature of the Stage 3 construction is the tiered classroom, designed to facilitate co-teaching and offer students an engaging, flexible learning environment.

Additionally, the six-room innovation hub which can be opened into one large collaborative space or divided into individual classrooms—now accommodates Design, Aerospace, Digital Technology, Furnishings, and Engineering subjects.

Meanwhile, St Clare’s Primary School Yarrabilba has commenced its Stage 5 expansion, adding a new building and renovating existing structures to include five new learning areas.

These upgrades complement the six new classrooms and library completed in 2022, ensuring the school is well-equipped to support an additional stream of students and meet growing community needs.

Both projects form part of BCE’s ongoing capital works investment, aimed at creating modern, safe and inspiring learning environments across its network of schools.
