Brisbane Catholic Education schools are out in full force this Walk Safely to School Day (10 May), putting their best foot forward to promote safe and healthy commutes to school.

St Finbarr’s School Ashgrove Principal Catherine Connors is setting the pace by emphasising the importance of walking safely to school.

"This day serves as a powerful reminder of the paramount importance of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students as they travel to and from school,” Catherine says.

“By participating in Walk Safely to School Day, we are not only promoting physical health but also instilling crucial road safety skills and fostering a culture of active transportation."

Our Lady of Dolours School Mitchelton is also miles ahead with Principal Tricia Howard saying “every Tuesday our school community meets together at the local park to actively walk to school together”.

“The weekly walks empower our students to take charge of their journey to school,” she says.

“Beyond the physical act of walking, these gatherings also instil invaluable lessons in road safety and awareness and cultivate a strong sense of belonging and unity within our school community.”
