Learning and teaching empowers all learners in our schools and communities to understand, shape and enrich our changing world.
Catholic schools operated by Brisbane Catholic Education use the syllabuses developed by the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) and former pre-existing bodies such as the Queensland School Curriculum Council and the Board of Senior Secondary School Studies. The QSA is a Statutory Body established by the Queensland Government to develop, in a co-operative manner with the recognised educational authorities such as Catholic Education, syllabuses and support materials for all Queensland students.
At present, each state develops and implements its own curriculum. After many years of debate, a national curriculum is now being proposed, to bring greater consistency to curriculum content and to allow a more seamless transition for those students who may move from one state to another. Brisbane Catholic Education is working with the Australian Curriculum, Reporting and Assessment Authority (ACARA) on the development of the national curriculum.
BCE provides a range of support to Catholic schools in curriculum development and implementation. This includes policy development and representation with other Catholic, government and non-government groups; provision of professional development opportunities for teachers; support documentation and resourcing to school communities; and providing a focused direction for enhancing improved learning outcomes across our schools. The development of our Learning Framework is of great benefit to schools as they implement further an outcomes approach to learning.
