Brisbane Catholic Education’s (BCE) newest school, St Bonaventure’s College Flagstone, took a significant step toward its 2026 opening with a Turning of the Sod ceremony today (7 February). Leading this exciting new chapter is Foundation Principal Anthony Elmore, whose extensive experience and vision for cultivating a vibrant school community will guide the development of St Bonaventure’s from the ground up. His Grace Archbishop Mark Coleridge, BCE’s Executive Director Dr Sally Towns, State Member for Jordan, Charis Mullen, and St Bonaventure’s College Parish Priest Father Onyema were among those present for the Turning of the Sod. Under the guidance of a proven leader Anthony steps into this role following six and a half years as Principal of St Michael’s College Merrimac, where he undertook his first principalship. His time at St Michael’s laid a solid foundation for his leadership style - one centred on students and community-focused decision-making. “Being a principal is a great privilege,” Anthony said. “It’s an opportunity to have the greatest impact within a school community, shaping the lives of students, in partnership with families and staff. “It’s about empowering others to make a difference and using our talents for the good of the community.” Anthony also spent six months as the Acting Principal of St Joseph’s College Coomera, where he said he fell in love with the Prep to Year 12 environment. “My time at St Joseph’s is one of the reasons I applied for the Principalship at St Bonaventure’s,” he adds. “Getting to see my students thrive across all stages of their educational journey, from their very first day in Prep to their graduation in Year 12, is incredibly rewarding.” Building something new Anthony said St Bonaventure’s College offers him the unique opportunity to establish a school culture from its inception. “The chance to work with the local community to shape something from the beginning is incredibly exciting,” he said. “It’s about creating a school that will stand the test of time and serve future generations.” Breaking ground in November 2024, the first phase of St Bonaventure’s College is already underway. The state-of-the-art facilities, set to be completed by late November, will include, covered sports areas with double basketball courts, library and staff facilities, Early Years classrooms for Prep to Year 3, initial classrooms for the Year 7 intake, and a car park. A vision of service and inclusivity St Bonaventure’s College will be the first Catholic school in the Flagstone area, providing families with an inclusive and welcoming option for education. “We are a Catholic school open to everyone,” Anthony said. “Our mission is grounded in individual encounters with Jesus, respect for each person’s God-given uniqueness, and service in action.” “Service will be woven into the fabric of the school’s culture, beginning with its youngest students in Prep. “Through service in action, students will connect to our Catholic story and grow into compassionate, community-minded individuals.” Enrolments and growth St Bonaventure’s College expects an initial intake of students across Prep, Year 1, 2, 3, and Year 7 in 2026. This number is projected to grow to 1,850 students by 2031, reflecting the rapid development and demand in the Flagstone area. With a strong vision and a commitment to community, St Bonaventure’s College is poised to become a cornerstone of education in Flagstone, shaping lives for generations to come. St Bonaventure’s College is now accepting enrolments. Parents and carers can express their interest via the St Bonaventure’s College’s website.
