Beyond the classroom 31 Mar 2025 ©Brisbane Catholic Education, St Rita's Primary School, Victoria Point (2025). St Rita’s Primary School, Victoria Point, invites families to explore what makes their educational experience stand out from the rest as part of Brisbane Catholic Education’s Open Week (28 April to 4 May 2025). Nestled in a beautiful natural setting with 12 acres of grounds and an expansive oval overlooking Moreton Bay, parents can feel confident that their children are learning in an inspiring environment. The lush trees and ample shade create a serene atmosphere where students can play and learn outdoors. Enriching learning environments St Rita’s Primary School Principal Nathan Mulhearn said from the rejuvenated junior playground to the exciting, nature-inspired spaces for senior students, every corner of our school has been carefully planned to ensure students feel supported as they 'branch out' and discover their strengths. “We are planting seeds for future growth,” he said. “From our natural-themed playgrounds to areas that encourage creativity, teamwork, and leadership, we are proud to offer our students an enriching environment where they can blossom into confident individuals.” Service to others This commitment to excellence extends beyond the physical environment to the programs that support students' leadership and spiritual growth. The Year 6 Leadership Program, deeply rooted in the school's values of Faith, Love, Service, and Hope, empowers students to become leaders in their community. This program encourages active participation in ministry, with students contributing to school projects and taking initiative in meaningful ways. With a focus on service, including fundraising for Caritas’ Project Compassion and St Vincent De Paul, and the introduction of the phonics-based InitiaLit program, St Rita’s Primary School fosters holistic development — academically, spiritually, and socially. “The program focuses on the sounds that letters and combinations of letters make,” he said. “When students understand these sounds and how to blend them together, they can read and write with confidence. "By introducing phonics through the InitiaLit program, we are equipping our students with the essential tools for success while also giving our educators a clear, long-term perspective on each student's development.” New extracurricular activities In 2025, St Rita’s is hitting it out of the park with exciting new after-school extracurricular offerings. Cricket, AusKick, and netball are all on the horizon, giving students the chance to play their favourite team sports with friends, all while having fun after the school day ends. "Our instrumental program is also getting a tune-up!” added Nathan. “With the Creative Kids program, we are offering more musical opportunities than ever before. “From drums to guitar, percussion to strings, and even flute and clarinet — there is something for every budding musician to explore." What our parents think St Rita’s Primary school parent Linda Leigh said finding a Catholic school for her four children was a priority. “I chose St Rita's Primary School for its strong community, connection with the Parish, and the opportunity for my children to complete their sacramental programs with their peers,” she said. “I wanted to provide them with an education that was rooted in values, morals, and a relationship with Jesus Christ.” Open Week 2025 Discover the St Rita’s difference!
