Bright futures are getting ready to set sail at Star of the Sea Primary School, this Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Open Week (28 April to 4 May 2025). 

Located in the heart of Cleveland, Star of the Sea Primary School is well known for its expansive campus spanning 1.81 hectares, open plan classrooms, adventure playground, two ovals, indoor basketball court, performing arts space, and state of the art technology. 

Parents and future scholars are invited to experience the school on Thursday 1 May to take part in a Principal tour including a special tour of the Prep rooms, where future students can learn about the letter ‘R’.  

Principal Lagi Aukusitino said the school, which is now in its 16th year of operation, has many unique offerings. 

“At Star of the Sea, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school community,” she said. 

“From Prep to Year 6 every student learns AUSLAN. 

"Every student is taught how to sign our school motto ‘Christ lights your way.’ 

“With a dedicated school officers and a strong staff-to-student ratio, we ensure that each child receives the individual attention and guidance they need to thrive. 

“We also offer a specialist performing arts program including, dance, music, choir, and drama club. 

“For our budding scientists we offer STEM club. 

"Our Physical Education program encourages skill development and teamwork across a diverse range of sports, including soccer, cross country, rugby, athletics, swimming, and handball.  

“We also offer a one-to-one technology program, ensures that every student has access to their own iPad, improving student outcomes.” 

Lagi adds her school has “strong bonds with local kindergartens, supporting a smooth transition to school”. 

“Our local kindergartens are welcomed onsite to borrow books from our library and take part in sport and music throughout the year,” she said. 

“In Term 1 the kindergarteners also took part in a special Kindy carnival, which saw them participate in arts and crafts, games, and they also learnt about the letters C & K. 

“It is also tradition for our kindergarteners to join us for Book Week, Harmony Week, and other important school celebrations throughout the year.” 

Lagi said the school community is deeply committed to living out our Catholic faith. 

“Through our Leadership program, our Year 6 students live out their faith by actively participating in liturgies, ANZAC Day commemorations, and assisting at school Masses—nurturing both their spiritual and personal growth,” she said. 

"Throughout the year our students will take part in the St Vincent de Paul’s Christmas appeal, Rosies, and Caritas’ Project Compassion. 

"This year with our hearts full of love, our staff and students will create knitted hearts for premature babies.  

"The idea is that the mother keeps the heart close to her body, transferring her scent onto it, and then leaves the heart with the baby, providing a tangible token of love and connection when she’s not in the room. 

“Our students also enjoy visits to Nareeba Moopi Moopi Pa Aged Care, Stradbroke Island where they connect with elders, play games, and sing songs.” 

Lagi said that, aligned with Pope Francis’ call to 'Care for Our Common Home' “our Year 3 - 6 students actively engage in sustainability through our EcoWarriors group”. 

“This initiative promotes sustainable practices, including organising recycling programs and supporting our schools Containers for Change campaign,” she said.  

In 2025, Star of the Sea Primary School is working on the Lighthouse Project, which includes the creation of a dynamic learning space featuring a mini outdoor amphitheatre, designed to foster collaboration, creativity, and outdoor learning experiences.
