By Mary MacKillop College, Nundah Year 12 graduate Giselle Grace. As Mission Captain for 2025 I have been taking the opportunity and responsibility to act, advocate, and make a difference wherever we can. This year, I was able to give back through working with the Cancer Council's Ponytail Project, raising much needed funds and awareness for those experiencing cancer. I was also provided the opportunity to work with The Forgotten Women charity at the Hearts and Hands Advocacy Event. The organisation helps uplift women experiencing homelessness and support them through student-led donations and handmade gifts. My role also saw me mentor the Junior Joeys for Justice Group, helping organise social justice initiatives, and leading the MacKillop Action Group in whole-school activities, including liturgies, the Hearts and Hands Event, Harmony Week, and our College’s Winter Drive. Some other highlights of this year included being part of the Year 12 Debating Team in the Queensland Debating Union and reaching the finals. I also found time to coach the Year 9 Debating Team at Mary MacKillop College and competed in the Lions Youth of the Year Public Speaking Competition. By Assisi Catholic College, Upper Coomera Year 12 graduate Angelina Rowley This year, I was appointed the Francis House Captain for 2025, and my personal goal this year was to have a positive impact on everyone I meet, no matter how big or small, and to bring my cohort together in our final year of school. I wanted everyone to make memories that last and that they are fond of. In an effort to have a positive impact and bring my cohort together, I organised a group of nine girls to take part in Rock the Chop, raising just over $4,000 for the Cancer Council. I also coordinated the Senior Sunrise event at the beginning of the year to help bring everyone together, symbolising the start of our final chapter, and the Senior Sunset to mark the close of our final year of schooling. The event saw Year 12 graduates gather to watch the sun rise and set in solidarity. My education journey at Saint Mary’s has been full of moments that fill me with pride. Like receiving the BCE Sportsperson of the Year and the Aunty Daisy Carlo Deadly Award at Saint Mary’s Catholic College’s annual awards ceremony. The feeling of being up on stage accepting these awards made me feel truly connected to and appreciated by my College community. In my senior year, I also found enjoyment in the opportunity to read the Welcome to Country at school assemblies. I feel honoured to represent my people, while it also makes me feel proud of myself as I continue to work to overcome my fear of public speaking. Some of the best memories I have from my time at Saint Mary’s have been the extra opportunities that are on offer. Some of my highlights include sports carnivals, camps, excursions and retreats.
