Our Lady of Dolour’s School, Mitchelton joins two million others this Day for Daniel (Friday 31 October) with one mission: keep kids safe. From wearing red for remembrance to teaching personal safety, Our Lady of Dolour’s School empowers its 164 students. Our Lady of Dolours School Principal Tricia Howard said it was important to empower students to recognise, react and report unsafe situations. “Students need to know what personal safety is, what it means to them, and how unsafe situations make them feel,” she said. “Educating children in this way about personal safety empowers them to act (go with their gut feeling), when situations arise.” Tricia adds, “this Day for Daniel, our students will also be engaging in lessons about what safety means to them”. “Through their artwork and writing, students will explore important topics such as online safety, road safety, and personal safety,” she said. “Day for Daniel is an opportunity for us as educators and a school community to reflect, raise awareness, and contribute to Daniel’s enduring legacy.” Principal Tricia Howards top tips for keeping your child safe: Educate – use the resources available to you. Access the Day for Daniel ‘Keeping Kids Safe’ resources online. Use books from your school or local library to teach your child about safety concepts.
