Year 12 cohort make College history in 2026!

Sophia College, Plainland hits a milestone year in 2026 as 62 students walked through the front gates as the College's inaugural Year 12 cohort (Thursday 29 January).

To mark this historic moment for the College the Year 12 cohort joined together for a special group photo.  

Year 12 College Captain Chloe said, “in 2021 we walked through the College gates as the first Year 7 cohort, and now in 2026 we complete the first chapter of Sophia College’s history as its inaugural Year 12 cohort”. 

Legacy and vision Sophia College, Plainland Acting Principal Brendan Luxton said, “this is the first time in our College history that we proudly celebrate a full Year 7 to 12 cohort”. 

“Seeing our foundation Year 7s now step forward as seniors is something we’re immensely proud of,” he said. 

“We’re grateful to our families, staff and the wider community for walking this journey with us.” 

Making their mark Brendan adds, “our Year 12 students have been instrumental in shaping the identity of the College”. 

“Our foundation cohort have been instrumental in shaping our College’s academic and cultural identity,” he said. 

“Their passions and leadership have helped steer subject offerings towards greater relevance and diversity, championing integral ecology,” he said. 

“Our Year 12s helped pioneer a subject that tackles local environmental challenges, which directly influences the creation of our eco-science precinct. 

“Their creativity has sparked new performance opportunities and visual art and dance showcases, enriching the College’s cultural life.  

“On the sporting field, they’ve set high standards of participation and sportsmanship, from swimming to cross country. 

“Most importantly, they’ve helped define future pathways, from vocational and traineeships to university preparation and leadership development that will benefit generations to come.”
