As thousands of Year 12 students embark on their final year of school, San Damiano College Yarrabilba is celebrating a significant milestone with the school’s foundation students leading the college as the first Year 12 cohort in 2026.

Opening with just 77 Year 7 students in 2021, the school is now firmly embedded at the heart of one of Queensland’s fastest growing communities, welcoming 530 students this year.

Foundation Principal, Peter Edwards said the 2026 student leaders, and the entire cohort, had played a significant role in shaping the school’s identity.

“As the leaders of our school from Year 7, our foundation students have been fabulous role models and ambassadors for the school and the Yarrabilba community,” Peter said.

“Leadership has been a cornerstone of our personal development programs so it is now second nature.”

The San Damiano College 2026 College Captain, William Frizzell said it was an honour to lead a school that had helped him grow so much.

“As the foundation year students, we have been set high expectations, and I am so proud of how we’ve improved and grown and committed to our learning and committed to being the best example for younger students,” William said.

“Being part of the first student leadership team means that I can provide a mould for future students about what it means to be a student at San Damiano, how we treat each other and how we behave.”

“I’m looking forward to giving back, supporting others, and helping make our final year one to remember."

Peter said it has been an absolute privilege to lead the college and witness the foundation students grow into confident and compassionate young adults.

“The leadership, energy and example of our foundation students has inspired our entire student body and will leave a lasting legacy,” Peter said.

“A major focus of our beginning years has been establishing, building and nurturing a strong culture that all students, staff and the community can be proud of,” Peter said.

“I have watched the school grow from an empty piece of land into the thriving school that it is today where our students and staff are guided by a common set of values that shape our culture.”

“Leading San Damiano College, and seeing our ambitious vision for the school come to life, has been one of the most rewarding and defining experiences of my career.”
