With a proud 88 year history of faith and learning, St Joseph’s School, Bardon enters a new chapter this school year with the appointment of Carol Seagar as Principal.

In this Q&A, Carol shares her commitment to strengthening relationships within her school and further broadening community involvement in 2026.

Q: How will you foster a strong community in your new role?

A: Being present within the community, open to every conversation, and continuing to build and affirm the strong collaborative relationships already in place at St Joseph’s are central to my approach.

In 2026, I will also focus on warmly welcoming all new families into our community, with invitations to participate in school and community events throughout the year.

Q: What are your plans for your school in 2026?

A: Continuing to share our educational journey with the community of St Joseph's, with a focus on explicit teaching and wellbeing in 2026.

As part of this, St Joseph’s will launch its first Reconciliation Action Plan in 2026, which will continue to improve outcomes for First Nations students.

I also plan to continue building strong relationships with our local kindergartens by inviting them to join us for events and celebrations throughout the year.

Q: As a Principal, what inspires you in your role?

A: Working with young people as they progress through school in their education, building an education community that provides for the whole child.

Q: How do you like to connect with students on a personal level?

A: Moving around the playground and classrooms and engaging in conversations with them on a daily basis.

Q: How do you hope to be remembered by the students and staff you’ve led?

A: That I always served them, had a pastoral focus on all and rigour around learning and teaching.

Q: Do you have an inspiring quote or phrase you use in your interactions as a leader?

A: Always assume goodwill.

Q: What do you think makes your school and Catholic education special?

A: We are a faith-based community that provides holistic education grounded in Gospel values, with a strong sense of belonging and identity.

We support purposeful service and social justice engagement within the community, and beyond, with rich traditions and spiritual formation.

Our deep partnerships with families and community enhance the life of the school. The curriculum is aligned with human dignity, meaning, and purpose.

These elements work together to create environments where students are known, valued, and inspired to make a difference.
