As Harmony Week (16 to 22 March) celebrates cultural diversity and global connection, St John Fisher College, Bracken Ridge continues to show how language learning can open doors to worlds beyond the classroom.
With a 100 per cent success rate in their recent DELF examinations, an internationally recognised language qualification awarded by the French Ministry of Education, French extension students at the College are now all considered fluent in French.
St John Fisher College and FisherONE Online Education Principal Britt Gurnett said the milestone achievement means her students are prepared for an increasingly connected world.
“
This accomplishment will enhance future study, employment, travel and residency opportunities for students,” she said.
Britt adds, the achievement strongly reflects the spirit of Harmony Week, celebrating cultural diversity, language and global citizenship.
“Language learning allows students to connect more deeply with the world around them,” she said.
“Harmony Week reminds us that understanding and embracing different cultures starts with communication, respect and genuine curiosity, and our students are living this in a very real way.
"Our students are not just learning language, they are learning to belong to a diverse interconnected world.”
Britt said student success can be attributed to the College’s accelerated language program.
“Our College’s French Immersion program accelerates language acquisition, with students developing fluency at a significantly faster rate than in traditional language pathways,” she said.
“By the end of Year 9, Immersion students typically surpass the skills of a standard Year 10 French class, allowing them to fast-track their Senior studies."
As a result, students complete the Year 11 and 12 French curriculum across Years 10 and 11, creating a unique opportunity to study French Extension in Year 12.”
