It’s unique in all the right ways.
St Benedict’s Primary School, Mango Hill will showcase its new adventure playground to prospective students and their families for the first time this Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Open Week (27 April to 3 May).
As a starting point for their Open Week tours, the playground takes families on an adventure to Redcliffe Jetty, including its iconic history and ships, Mango Hill Fire Station, as well as a local market stall, vegetable garden, hopscotch, monkey bars, balancing beams, drums, trampoline, swinging baskets, and sand pit.
The playground also boasts a dry riverbed with a water pump and wheel for STEM play, alongside a mini pod and seating for quieter play.
More than a play area, the playground functions as an outdoor learning environment where children build confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of belonging from their very first day at school.
A playground like no other
St Benedict’s Primary School Principal Renay Condon said a well-designed playground, such as this, supported the holistic development of every early year learner.
“Playgrounds help children build physical strength, coordination, and confidence through active play,” she said.
“Beyond these benefits are also the social and emotional skills children build on the playground as they learn to cooperate, negotiate and form friendships.
“It’s also a space where children can develop creativity, problem-solve, and build resilience as they take on new risks.
“With both high-energy play zones and calm retreat spaces, our new playground supports children’s wellbeing while encouraging independence, teamwork and imaginative thinking.”
The playground was designed by Everything Outside, the same company that also built St John Vianney’s Primary School, Manly's iconic lighthouse playground, which overlooks Manly Harbour in Wynnum.
