Final whistle on another try-mendous season of Rugby 7s

The final whistle has blown on the 2026 BCE Rugby 7s competition, but the impact of the tournament stretches far beyond the try line.

Bringing together 1800 primary aged students from across 75 Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) schools, Rugby 7s has once again shown the power of sport to connect communities, build confidence, and create a sense of belonging.

St Columba’s Primary School, Wilston Principal Nick Fogarty said across four weeks of competition, students pulled on their school jerseys and represented something bigger than themselves.

“While each team played for their school, every player was also part of a system-wide celebration of teamwork, perseverance, and participation,” he said.

“From Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, thousands of students shared the same experience, making new friends, testing their skills, and discovering what it means to be part of the wider BCE family.”

Notre Dame College, Bells Creek Principal Dan McShea, who runs the Sunshine Coast competition, said he was excited for his own school to join the competition for the first time in 2027.

“As a newer school, it’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to represent Notre Dame College, build connections with other BCE schools and experience the spirit of the competition firsthand,” he said.
