Young stars take centre stage in special centenary musical production

Students at St Augustine's Parish Primary School, Currumbin Waters took centre stage in a spectacular production of Disney's Dare to Dream JR. as part of the school's historic centenary celebrations.

The musical revue, which celebrates 100 years of Disney music, proved a fitting feature of the school's own milestone, marking 100 years of educating and nurturing generations of local families. Featuring beloved Disney songs and characters, the production showcased the talents of students across the school while bringing together families, staff, parishioners and the wider community for one of the school's most anticipated events of the year.

"Being part of Dare to Dream JR. was such an amazing experience. I loved performing on stage with my friends and knowing we were helping celebrate 100 years of our school made it even more special,” said Year 6 School Captain Lucia.

“It has given me the opportunity to really show my creative side along with my peers from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6,” said Year 5 student Ben.

St Augustine’s Parish Primary School Principal John Cameron said the musical was a highlight of the centenary celebrations and reflected the school's rich history and bright future.

"As we celebrated 100 years of St Augustine's, this production gave us the opportunity to reflect on how far our school has come while also looking ahead with hope and excitement," he said.

"The theme of Dare to Dream captured the spirit that has guided our school community for a century. 

“It reminded us that every generation of students has been encouraged to dream big, work hard and make a positive difference in the world."

The production followed months of rehearsals and preparation by students and staff, who worked together to bring the colourful Disney-inspired show to life.

John adds the success of the production reflected the strong sense of community that had supported the school throughout its 100-year history.

"Our centenary year was an opportunity to celebrate the generations of families, staff and students who have helped shape St Augustine's into the school it is today,” he said.

“Seeing our students perform so proudly on stage was a wonderful reminder of the vibrant and caring community we have built together over the past century."

The production received strong support from families and the wider school community, providing a memorable and magical celebration of both Disney's and St Augustine's 100-year milestones.

Assistant Principal Brenton Edwards said Dare to Dream was more than a musical.

“It was the result of hundreds of hours of dedication, twice-weekly rehearsals after school since Term 1, and countless lunch breaks spent nurturing the talents of our student,” he said.

“Teachers Julia Miller, Cassidy Cowley and Breanna Stalker poured their hearts into every moment, inspiring our cast to dream big, work hard, and achieve something truly extraordinary. 

“Their unwavering commitment, passion and belief in our students transformed a dream into a spectacular reality and created memories that will last a lifetime in our 100th year.”
