Empowering students to have a genuine voice in their learning has earned FisherONE's Amrita Moss recognition at the 2026 Brisbane Catholic Education Excellence Awards.

As Leader of Wellbeing and Engagement at FisherONE Online Education, Amrita was awarded the Excellence in Championing Student Voice Award for her outstanding leadership, innovation and commitment.

Working within Queensland's only Catholic online senior school offers a unique opportunity to foster connection, belonging and engagement within a vibrant virtual student community.

Through her leadership, Amrita has transformed the way student voice is captured, valued and acted upon, creating meaningful opportunities for students to influence decision-making and contribute to school culture.

At the heart of Amrita's approach is a strong belief that students should be active partners in their education.

“When students have a genuine voice in their learning, they develop a stronger sense of ownership, engagement and belonging,” shared Amrita.

“By actively listening to students and creating opportunities for them to contribute, we build a community where they know their perspectives matter and that they are an important part of the FisherONE journey.”

Amrita has transformed the way student feedback is gathered, understood and acted upon across the FisherONE community.

A passionate advocate for student agency, Amrita introduced termly student voice surveys that consistently achieve strong participation rates.

“When students feel heard and included, they are more likely to feel connected, supported and confident in their learning, which helps foster a positive sense of belonging,” shared Amrita.

“Receiving this award has been both humbling and rewarding, and reflects something I care deeply about, ensuring every student feels seen, heard and supported.

“Being part of their learning journey in this way is incredibly special, and I am grateful to play a role in helping them feel connected and empowered.”

Her leadership also led to the establishment of the FisherONE Student Representative Council (SRC), providing students with authentic leadership opportunities and a platform to contribute to communications, initiatives and the ongoing development of school culture.

Head of FisherOne, Megan Pidskalny said Amrita's ability to translate feedback into meaningful action has had a significant impact on student experience.

“After identifying concerns around information overload, she introduced a streamlined weekly notices structure that improved communication, clarity and student engagement,” said Megan.

“She has also strengthened staff capability by leading professional learning in the use of Microsoft Insights, equipping staff to better interpret student data and respond to student needs.”

In addition to these initiatives, Amrita introduced targeted study sessions, a student coaching program and a Year 11 end-of-year celebration that brought together students, families and staff from across the state.

“Amrita's strategic thinking, innovation and unwavering commitment to student wellbeing continue to shape a culture where student voice is valued and acted upon,” shared Megan.

“Through her leadership, connection isn't just something we hope for at FisherONE - it's embedded in how we learn, lead and support every student.”

Congratulations to Amrita on this well-deserved recognition at the 2026 BCE Excellence Awards.

About Queensland World Teachers’ Day

Queensland World Teachers' Day is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and applaud our teachers for the important role they play in our communities and for the positive impact they have on the lives of students. This year’s Queensland theme is teachers change lives.

This year’s BCE theme is a message directly from our students ‘Thank you for believing in us,’ and throughout October, our school communities are invited to share messages of gratitude.

If you would like to thank a staff member at a BCE school, share your appreciation on your school’s Gratitude Wall, take a photo and tag BCE on social media.

Thank a BCE staff member via your school’s Gratitude Wall or share a message via our BCEnewsroom using #ThanksBCEStaff and #WTDQLD.
