Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) has taken a significant step forward in delivering a new proposed co-educational secondary school for Brisbane’s inner-north, lodging Ministerial Infrastructure Designation application for the Windsor Inner North Secondary School (WINSS) project.

The WINSS project is a strategic response to the growing demand for faith-based secondary education in Brisbane’s inner-city region.

Identified as a priority in BCE’s 20-year New School Development Schedule, the proposed secondary school is designed to accommodate around 910 students and 113 teaching staff

It will deliver significant community benefits, that include:

  • offering diverse co-educational Catholic schooling for families
  • supporting South East Queensland’s growth through critical infrastructure
  • building and enhancing local community and identity
  • providing local employment opportunities
  • enabling flexibility to adapt to future education trends
  • allowing staged delivery to meet evolving staff and student needs.

vision for the future

The proposed school, planned to be opened in 2029, is being designed with students' futures in mind - blending innovation, sustainability, and wellbeing into every aspect of the campus by aligning with the vision of Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’.

The Educational Brief, developed in consultation with key stakeholders, has guided project architect Hayball in creating a comprehensive masterplan that prioritises wellness through central hubs and distributed spaces, as well as targeting 10m² of outdoor space per student.

The application for a Ministerial Infrastructure Designation is managed by the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning.

BCE Executive Director Dr Sally Towns said BCE was committed to meeting the demand for high-quality, Catholic education in South East Queensland including a focused investment on inner-city Brisbane.

"We remain deeply committed to delivering thriving, faith-filled learning communities that align with the needs of our expanding communities, creating a better future for all,” she said.

“We will continue to invest in the future as an educator of choice to meet the demands of our communities.”
