The Year 7 cohort at Carmel College, Thornlands is starting their first day with twice the excitement.

The cohort of 210 students is also welcoming six sets of twins starting in Year 7.

A rare phenomenon

Year 7 twin Mya said she is eager to start secondary school (pictured second from the right, in green shirt).

“I am also excited to learn new subjects alongside my twin Ada,” she said.

“I also can’t wait to meet other twins!”

Carmel College mother Rebecca Iffland said, “we feel incredibly proud seeing Ada and Mya begin their secondary school journey at Carmel College”.

“Watching them grow into confident young people and take this big step together is truly special,” she said.

“It’s a moment filled with mixed emotions, but I'm excited that they will share this opportunity together.”

Double the success

Carmel College Principal Stephen Adair said, “from identical duos to fraternal siblings, the 12 students are already making history at the College”.

“It’s not every day that you see so many pairs of twins start in one cohort,” he said.

“Their unique bonds, shared experiences, and individual strengths will bring a wonderful energy to the 2026 Year 7 cohort.

“Together, they will enrich our school community with twice the enthusiasm, twice the creativity, and twice the spirit of collaboration.

“What an exciting journey ahead for them, and for all of us who get to share it with them.”
