Often compared to Usain Bolt for his near identical stride length, Gout Gout - the 18-year-old former St Francis Xaver School, Goodna student - dropped into his old school to launch a surprise partnership with iconic Australian spread Vegemite (Friday 13 February).
As part of the partnership launch students not only had the opportunity to race Australia’s fastest sprinter on live television, but to also interview him.
One St Francis Xavier School student Ella in Year 6 had the opportunity to ask, “what was your favourite subject at primary school?”
Gout Gout responded with no surprises, that physical education was his favourite subject at school.
"The easy answer is physical education, but I like science, and maths too,” he said.
“But if I could pick physical education, I would.”
Gout Gout also shared his favourite memories from school, his training tips for students aspiring to become professional athletes, as well as his favourite way to eat vegemite, which is vegemite with avocado on toast!
St Francis Xavier School Principal Kellie Jacobsen said the visit was “inspirational” for her students.
“We have a lot of talented sportspersons at our school,” she said.
“It’s wonderful for our students to see what’s possible when you combine talent with hard work, dedication and the right support around you.
"I know this visit will help inspire our students to chase their own dreams.”
Looking ahead, Gout Gout is currently gearing up for the World U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, and is also expected to compete at both the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 and the Brisbane Olympics in 2032.
