Looking for a College where curiosity comes to life?

Then look no further! During Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Open Week (27 April to 3 May) future students and their families are invited to step inside St Benedict’s College, Mango Hill, and its vibrant new careers space Monday 27 April.

St Benedict’s College difference

The new Futures Hub is a dynamic space designed to help students discover where their interests can take them and find confidence in their choices ahead.

St Benedict’s College Pathways Program Leader Sarah Meder said the Futures Hub brings career exploration to life, sparking curiosity and meaningful conversations about future pathways in the classroom.

“Our Futures Hub is a central point of support for students across the College and the home of careers learning for our Year 9 and 10 students,” she said.

“In this inspiring space, students explore subject choices, senior pathways, university and TAFE options, VET programs and real-world work experience opportunities, all in one place.

“Our Futures Hub reflects our commitment to personalised guidance, contemporary career education and student wellbeing, ensuring every student feels supported as they plan their future.”

Career education starts now

For students in Year 7 and 8, career exploration is essential, Sarah said.

“Each year, students take part in a career showcase, displaying their career aspirations to students in Year 6 at neighbouring school St Benedict’s Primary School,” she said.

“The showcase is an opportunity for students to reflect on their interests and set their sights high for the years ahead, while also inspiring potential future scholars.”

Annual Careers Expo

The College also hosts an annual Career Expo for students from Year 10, with opportunities to speak with representatives from neighbouring universities, TAFE, the Australian Defence Force, and other connecting industry professionals.

“The experience truly supports students to realise their own individual career aspiration,” Sarah said.

“It also supports our Curriculum Leaders as they guide students through senior subject selections, helping students take the next step in their learning journey with confidence.”

The results are clearSarah adds that at St Benedict’s College students are prepared for life beyond the school gates.

“Last year we had over twenty-five early acceptances into University,” she said.

“From a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Sciences, to a Bachelor of Counselling and a Bachelor of Environmental Science our students are truly ahead of the rest!

“While we also had multiple students successfully entering the workforce or beginning TAFE studies, many achieved this before even finishing school.

“It’s about giving our students confidence, clarity and the skills to succeed, whether that pathway leads to university, further training or employment.”

St Benedict’s College Principal Tameika Grist said the work her staff do to support students to find their career pathways is “so important in preparing graduates for life beyond school”.

“I am very proud to have been able to create a dedicated space where students can access careers lessons, have conversations about vocation opportunities and find pathways to pursue careers whilst they are still in our College,” she said.

“The work our staff put in to ensure every student can access opportunities and find their path is wonderful, and our community is very blessed to have such dedicated staff working to create positive outcomes for our young adults.”

The Futures Hub helps students connect classroom learning to real-world possibilities, sparking ideas, questions and ambition as they explore what’s next!

Through personalised guidance and meaningful pathways, St Benedict’s College empowers students to imagine their future with confidence and purpose.
