Star of the Sea School, Merrimac is laying strong foundations for the future with exciting plans now taking shape as the school looks ahead to its Stage 3 building works.
Fresh off the completion of a large new administration building, basketball courts, additional Prep classroom, library and tuckshop, the school community isn’t hitting pause. Instead, they’re raising the roof on what comes next this Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Open Week (27 April to 3 May).
The next phase of construction includes six additional classrooms built at the back of the school for Year 4 and 5 students, a STEM space for all year levels, and a larger staff and parent car park.
More space, more opportunity
Star of the Sea Principal Tony Barron said the works would ensure the campus continues to grow with its expanding student population. The school is expecting 370 students to walk through the front gates in the school’s 6th year of operation in 2027.
“As demand grows, we’re growing with it, creating more places for more students, and creating space for our students to learn and thrive,” he said.
“The dedicated STEM space will mean learning can keep evolving, projects don’t have to be packed away, and ideas can keep growing as they are developed.
“While a larger car park and drop off and pick up area will help make mornings a little smoother for our families and staff.”
The staff and parent car park is due to be completed in June of this year, while the students will be ready to jump headfirst into their six new classrooms and STEM space in January 2027.
As part of the previous Stage 2 works, the original administration block was converted into the school’s designated learning support area and uniform shop.
