TWO Brisbane Catholic Education students are part of 44 of Australia’s most talented junior baseball players who are headed to The United States of America (USA) with the National Under-16 Junior Squad this month.

As part of the experience, Year 11 student Paddy McLoughlin from Southern Cross Catholic College Scarborough and Year 10 student Toby Muller from Emmaus College Jimboomba, will compete against some of the best junior baseballers in Atlanta, Georgia, and get to tour colleges and meet college coaching staff.

Paddy said it was a huge honour to play for Team Australia in the Perfect Game tournament.

“I am so excited to be representing my country with other really good players,” he said.

“I can't wait to get over to the USA, it is going to be an awesome tour, and I am looking forward to playing baseball at such a high level.

We are playing a five-game series against the USA national team, which is the best junior team in the world, so it is going to really test us.

“I am so proud of my selection; it is something I have been aiming for with lots of hard work for many years.

“My goal after school is to play college baseball in the United States of America.”

Toby said he was proud to represent Australia and was “grateful for the opportunity”.

“I have dedicated a lot of time and effort into this sport, and I’m glad that it is paying off,” he said.

Southern Cross Catholic College Principal Christopher Campbell said, “to get to the level of competition that Paddy has achieved was a great reward for the dedication to the sport he loves”.

“Everyone at Southern Cross Catholic College is very proud of his achievements, and we wish him and his team mates the very best for their time in the United States.”

Emmaus College Principal Jane Egan said she was “immensely proud” of Toby on his remarkable achievement of being chosen to represent Australia in baseball.

“Toby is not only a gifted sportsman but also a diligent student who consistently exemplifies the values of hard work and dedication,” she said.

“We are incredibly proud of him and wish him every success in this exciting opportunity."

The 44 players were initially selected off their performances at the Australian Youth Championships and through their work with their respective states Performance Pathway Programs.
