In a move to support working parents in the Boonah community, All Saints’ School Boonah, in partnership with Catholic Early EdCare, has opened an Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) program on Tuesday, 13 August. All Saints’ School Principal Robert Campbell, said he felt compelled to address the challenges of working parents in his local area in developing the service offering, which will be managed by Catholic Early EdCare.
“This program is a way our school community can give back,” Robert says.
“The lives of our families have changed over the past few decades, and often single and two parent families need to work to curve the cost of living.
“It takes the burden off families, and that’s nothing but good news for our students and students from surrounding schools.”
Beyond the convenience for parents, the program will also offer a reprieve for grandparents who are often relied upon for support.
“My hope for this program is that it helps ease the pressure off school pick-up and drop-offs for families in our local area, ultimately contributing to a more supportive and enriching community for everyone involved,” says the Principal.
“This program is in line with our commitment to foster hope-filled learning environments where our students and their families can thrive, and I know this program will do just that.”
All Saints’ Boonah Mother, Amanda Dover, agrees the program will benefit her three children, Jacqui Year 2, Max Year 4, and Ruby Year 6 – especially on the days she may need to work outside of school hours.
“Parents in the Boonah area have been crying out for a local before and after school program as well as vacation care during school holidays,” she says.
“There are currently very few options in the area for families working outside of school hours.
“This program is a huge asset for All Saints’ School but also our wider community.
“At the moment, I am only working school hours, and this program will provide me more flexibility.”
Catholic Early EdCare has been supporting families with their OSHC needs for close to 20 years and said that the OSHC educators are looking forward to being part of the Boonah community and supporting children and families of the school.
The OSHC service will provide before and after school care from 6.30 am to 8.30 am with breakfast provided and from 2.45 pm to 6 pm, Monday to Friday with a snack provided.
As part of the program, eligible parents can apply for the Australian Childcare Subsidy.
