Having only completed his teaching degree in mid-2023, Educator Adam Munro from Mary MacKillop College, Nundah, is already making waves on air and in the classroom.

As the winner of the ACU Award for Excellence as an Early Career Teacher (Secondary) at Brisbane Catholic Education’s (BCE) 2025 Excellence Awards, Adam was recognised for his ability to transform learning inside and outside of the classroom.

Since beginning his role, Adam has launched a school podcast ‘Words of Wisdom’ hosted by Principal Erin Wedge, which features various alumnae and staff. He is also known for dedicating his afternoons to his volleyball and athletics teams.

Making a difference

Principal Erin Wedge said Adam's leadership in curriculum design had been instrumental in enhancing their educational programs, ensuring they were both innovative and effective.

“Beyond the classroom, Adam actively contributes to various aspects of College life, participating in extracurricular activities such as after school sports, our College choir, and the school podcast,’” she said.

“Adam has been the driving force of ‘Words of Wisdom,’ with topics ranging from women in sport, to mental health, real-world preparation.

The school podcast has not only connected our school, but our wider school community, parents, carers, and alumnae.”

Above and beyond

Erin adds that Adam supports by organising events and is always a champion of school initiatives.

His dedication to education and his ability to inspire both students and staff have made a significant and lasting impact on our learning community in just a few short years,” she said.

“Adam's deep commitment to student wellbeing and Catholic identity is reflected in his daily interactions with students, where he consistently promotes a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere.

These qualities make Adam a truly deserving candidate for this award.”

Adam said he was overwhelmed by being a finalist, let alone winning.

“It felt like enough of an honour to make it as a finalist,” he said.

“I was so humbled that so many of my colleagues took time out of their busy day to write such kind and wonderful things about me.”

A full circle moment

Adam adds that, having grown up attending All Saints Primary School, Albany Creek, he felt drawn to the BCE system.

“While studying, I would always drive past Mary MacKillop College and think what a lovely campus it was,” he said.

“When I graduated from my teaching degree, it was the first job that popped up (teaching English and Drama) and it felt fated.

“I loved attending a BCE school in primary and so it felt like a way I could give back to the system that gave so much to me.”

To add to his accomplishments, Adam is also an Executive Committee member for the Australian Teachers of Media QLD (ATOM QLD), helping develop the state conference, and presenting workshops. He also lends his skills to hosting the QLD Youth TheatreSports competition, which provides an enjoyable performance experience that brings students together from various schools across South East Queensland to be in a show that is non-threatening and fun.
