Brisbane Catholic Education’s (BCE) 4000 Year 12 students are ready to reap the rewards of their own hard work as they begin their final exams today (Monday, 27 October).

With only 20 days left of school, the Year 12 students are preparing to close one chapter and step boldly into the next as lifelong learners.

After hard work comes rewards

BCE Head of Student Learning and Wellbeing Marisa Dann said, “I wish our Year 12 students a focused and balanced approach to this upcoming exam period”.

“Their faith in combination with the nurturing of their personal perseverance over the last 13 years will set them up for success over the coming weeks of external exams,” she said.

“Post proelia praemia. Which means, ‘after the battle, the rewards,’ in Latin.

“May our students preparing for exams know that their hard work will be their reward.”

Exam readiness

Assisi Catholic College, Upper Coomera Year 12 student Veronica Rey said her school helped break down the exam process with a series of holiday workshops.

“I feel incredibly prepared,” she said.

“The Math Methods External Preparation Holiday Workshop really helped with my study because it broke down the exam and how to approach it.

“It really took out the mystery of our external exams.

“Our teachers are enthusiastic about preparing us and getting us ready for our exams and I really feel supported.”

How can you support your learner?

Assisi Catholic College Principal John Frare said we know families and students will be balancing student wellbeing, with study and the looming completion of schooling over the coming weeks.

“Know that we are committed to supporting your child during this time, ensuring your soon to be graduates feel prepared, encouraged, and ready to embrace the future with faith and hope,” he said.

“To our students, believe in your preparation, trust your instincts, and know that your school community is behind you.”

Principal John Frare’s top tips for a successful exam period:

  1. Create a calm environment – a peaceful space to study and rest can make a world of difference.
  2. Encourage balance – remind your child to take breaks, eat well, and get enough sleep.
  3. Be a steady presence – sometimes just being there, listening without pressure, is the best support.
  4. Celebrate effort, not just outcomes – acknowledge your child’s hard work and dedication, regardless of the result.
  5. Keep perspective – exams are important, but they don’t define a young person’s worth or future.

A bright future awaits

Marisa adds, “at BCE we celebrate all versions of excellence, and recognise that many Year 12 students have already secured their future pathway prior to these exams”.

“May these students continue to model a love of learning in all they undertake, be it training, employment, or further study,” she said.

“I would like to congratulate our Year 12 students on their genuine and diligent efforts leading up to this important milestone.

“You will make both BCE and your families very proud over the coming days.

BCE would like to thank our community of parents and caregivers who have supported their child up until this point.

“I would also like to thank all BCE teachers and staff who have helped teach, challenge, and transform our Year 12 students over the past 13 years, your dedication has made a world of difference.”
