From the bustling streets of Brisbane to the fast-growing community of Upper Coomera, John Frare’s journey in education has brought him to Assisi Catholic College, where he is now embarking on his inaugural Principalship.
The move to a large Prep to Year 12 College of over 1500 students is a significant milestone in his 25-year career, which includes roles such as Deputy Headmaster at Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) East Brisbane and Dean of College at Iona College Wynnum.
Before this, John also held executive leadership positions at St Ignatius’ College Riverview in Sydney.
John said it was an exciting time for Assisi Catholic College.
“This year, we are celebrating our 20-year anniversary, while we also eagerly anticipate the opening of a new building as well,” he said.
“The new facility, named Durungul, represents a commitment to providing modern and adaptable learning environments for students.
"Durungul will house six flexible classrooms equipped to meet the evolving needs of our students, along with two open spaces designed to foster collaboration and creativity.
"This addition reflects our dedication to supporting the continued growth and success of Assisi Catholic College.”
When speaking about his life, John said, "As a boy, I was ok at all sports and good at none.”
“I managed to play rugby league for Parramatta and Wests, and this enabled me to balance study with a profession at the same time,” he said.
"I am a sporting enthusiast; I've had a go at everything.
“I strive to instil this same adventurous spirit in our students,” John said emphasising the value of participation and the lessons learned through trying new things and “just having a go.”
John expressed his enjoyment of his new role, highlighting the genuine interest students show in getting to know him and their strong pride in their College.
“I have been particularly struck by the welcoming nature of the College community,” John said.
“There's a palpable sense of equality permeating the campus atmosphere.
“You can truly feel the spirit of treating others with the same respect that Jesus Christ exemplified.
“This ethos will be integral in the direction of our College in 2024 and beyond, with a clear focus also shifting to academic excellence.
“I view my new role as Principal as a vocation, a joyful journey made possible by the love and encouragement of my family.”
