Queensland's first online Catholic learning campus will have a new base in Brisbane as it continues to expand its unique hybrid learning experiences to students across the state and beyond.

FisherONE online education, operated by Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE), will relocate to the former campus of Seton College, Mount Gravatt East from 2025 as it grows its offerings due to popular demand.

FisherONE commenced operations in 2022 with more than 130 senior students from 20 schools. Today it boasts state-of-the-art technology – the first of its kind to be installed in Australia – creating a seamless learning experience for students.

It offers nine subjects to Year 11 and 12 students across Queensland Catholic schools with plans to expand subjects and year level offerings in 2025. FisherONE currently offers multiple subject enrolments or single subjects allowing students from across the state to access highly qualified teaching and learning no matter where they are located, or school they attend.

Subjects include Japanese, Specialist Mathematics, Ancient History, Modern History, Physics, Biology, Psychology, Music, Business, Design, Food & Nutrition and Digital Solutions, and next year will introduce Religious Education, Dance and a Certificate III in Business.

FisherONE began its journey at St John Fisher College, Bracken Ridge and Principal, Ms Britt Gurnett – who is also the principal of FisherONE – said the innovative learning model was a first for Catholic education in Queensland

“FisherONE was developed to meet the needs of Brisbane Catholic Education students who have difficulty accessing specific subjects at their base school and that align with their post-school aspirations,” Ms Gurnett said.

“FisherONE opens a world of quality teaching opportunities, offering a wide range of subjects delivered with the care, understanding, and connection that are at the core of our Catholic values. Our dedicated team of experienced educators have crafted learning that aligns with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) standards and expectations.

FisherONE utilises cutting-edge Microsoft technology. The online school is one of six Australian schools in the Microsoft Showcase School Program that celebrates institutions leading the way in transforming education through technology.

From next year, the new FisherONE campus will be designed for teachers and school staff to deliver online learning for students. Seton College will close at the end of this school year, enabling BCE to make it the new home for its pioneering digital learning operation.

Brisbane Catholic Education Executive Director Dr Sally Towns said FisherONE provided an accessible and dynamic online environment where students could learn, engage, and grow, while teachers could create, curate, and share educational content in a secure and user-friendly way.

"We are thrilled to continue to expand FisherONE to other year levels due to demand, enabling students and teachers to have access to the highest quality education in an innovative online learning environment," Dr Towns said.

"Our goal is to make Catholic education accessible to everyone, no matter where they are or what their background may be, and we believe that FisherONE will be a game-changer in achieving that goal.

“The new home of FisherOne will also serve as a professional development hub and teacher collaboration space to foster future-focused teaching methodologies and hybrid learning models across our teaching cohort.

“With dedicated staff and a community built on Catholic values, FisherONE ensures equitable learning opportunities for high school students.”
