Just five years into operation, St Ann’s School Redbank Plains has powered up with the launch of its cutting-edge Esports Room.

Promising to be a hub of excitement and skill development for students, the new gaming arena is equipped with the latest technology, smart televisions, a sleek floor for robotics tournaments, podcast equipment, and Nintendo Switch gaming stations.

St Ann’s School Principal Sonny Smith said with the eSports Room now complete, the school is gearing up for an exciting esports event in Semester 2 of this year.

“At the heart of the thrill is our highly anticipated Mario Kart Challenge, where our students will go head-to-head with competitors from other local schools in an epic clash of speed and skill,” he said.

“Students will form teams, strategise by studying maps of the racetracks, and uncover game-changing shortcuts to dominate the competition!

“This initiative aims to prepare our students for local esports competitions and ultimately national school esports competition, the Fuse Cup in 2025.”

Sonny said the Esports Room will connect students with the skills they need for the future.

“We are preparing our students for future careers in an evolving digital landscape,” he said.

“It’s not just gaming - we are creating pathways for students to develop essential skills in teamwork, strategy, technology, critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration - which are crucial for success in many fields.”

The Esports room also boasts the capability to live stream events to every classroom in the school, ensuring that all students can cheer on their peers during competitions.

St Ann’s School’s Mario Kart Challenge will take place on Friday, 15 November.

“In the meantime, the students from St Ann's are fearlessly competing for positions on the St Ann's eSports teams, so they are ready for all competitors,” said Sonny.
