As Brisbane Catholic Education’s Open Week (28 April to 4 May 2025) rolls around, Our Lady of the Rosary School is throwing its doors open to families looking for the ultimate education experience.

This school, in the heart of Kenmore in inner-city Brisbane, boasts a 62-year history and a legacy of academic achievement, paired with an A+ list of extra-curricular opportunities.

What’s on offer?

Drumming up a reputation for excellence, Our Lady of the Rosary stands out, offering every budding musician the chance to explore a wide range of instruments, from drums to guitar, percussion to strings, and even flute and clarinet.

For students looking for a creative and dynamic arts program, the school offers opportunities beyond the traditional—featuring bucket drumming, ukulele, dance, and a rich visual arts curriculum.

Our Lady of the Rosary Principal Paul Rees said, Our Lady of the Rosary takes great pride in partnering with parents to provide students with personalised learning pathways that support their individual growth and success.

“We have a strong focus on academic excellence, with a systematic approach to teaching letters, sounds, and reading from Prep to Year 3, leading to student growth rates above the national average,” he said.

“In 2025, we are also excited to introduce The Star Learning Program, giving students opportunities to engage in robotics and a range of other innovative STEM experiences.”

Hear what our parents have to say

Our Lady of the Rosary parent Michelle Moore shared that her children Lola (Class of 2024), Mannon (Year 1), have both attended the school—with Jenson set to join in 2028.

“There’s a strong sense of pride in being part of the Our Lady of the Rosary community, with a focus on presentation, behaviour, and always giving your best,” she said.

"My children also love the on-campus swimming lessons.

“Through these lessons, our eldest daughter discovered her passion for sport, ultimately leading her to representative teams.

“Principal Paul is so approachable.

“He’s always available for a catchup during playground duty and afternoon pickups—creating a real sense of connection.”

Meet the new leadership team

Since stepping into the role of Principal in Term 1 2024, Paul has not only embraced new initiatives but also appointed a dynamic new leadership team dedicated to ensuring every student thrives—not only academically but also in their overall wellbeing.

“Welcoming Assistant Principal for Religious Education Sharon O’Hara, along with Primary Learning Leader and Head of Curriculum Karen O’Neil, we have developed, ‘Thrive in 25,’ an initiative that supports students in all aspects of their learning,” he said.

“In 2025, we are also investing in student wellbeing program ‘Second Steps,’ delivering weekly lessons that build social skills, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.

"As a Principal, I strive to be approachable, organised, and fair, and I am involved in all aspects of the school.

"I love being on playground duty because I can see our students’ friendships grow and develop.”

Unique facilities offer a splash into excellence

Paul adds his school offers unique facilities.

“We have a swimming pool, a well-equipped sports shed, and a resource centre with a dedicated tech room, and a nature-based play area for our youngest learners,” he said.

“Our expansive grounds, in the heart of Brisbane, provide ample space for learning, growth, and exploration.

“For those passionate about sports, we proudly boast champions in Queensland Futsal, a netball team in the QCup, an AFL team, and representatives in swimming and athletics.”

Creating global citizens who give back

“This environment extends to our Leadership Program, which offers students the opportunity to engage in community activities aligned with our Marist pillars,” Paul said.

“By completing a set number of activities, students earn leadership awards.

“For our Year 6 students, the program is designed to be meaningful and structured, with opportunities to lead assemblies, participate in parish activities, read at local kindergartens, and engage with our wider community.

“Our school thrives on the vibrant partnership with our Parents and Friends group, whose positive involvement ensures that the parent voice is heard and valued.

“Our Parish Priest Father Mark Franklin, also plays a significant role in our school, contributing to the school board and strengthening the connection between our school and Parish community.”
