Get to know some of BCE’s Principals in their new roles - Sally Smith

After facilitating BCE to introduce of Prep to its schools 2008 and lecturing in Early Childhood Education at the Australian Catholic University (ACU), educator Sally Smith says her interest in pursuing leadership opportunities grew.

Now she’s started 2023 in her first Principalship role, at Mary Immaculate Primary School Annerley.

“With my experience and God’s guidance, I know I was meant to take on this role,” said Sally.

“I am just excited to see where my first permanent Principalship will take me and my students in 2023 and into the future.”

Sally said she has a passion for Early Childhood Education, the Arts and love of storytelling. And it’s something she is excited to share with her new students.

“When I accepted my first acting Principalship role, I started sculpting as a way of relaxing and mindfulness,” she said.

“I have always felt an affinity with the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of St Joseph, and so sculpted a statue of Mary MacKillop.

“I have been hoping for a school where she might finally find a home, and I think my new school Mary Immaculate, established by the Josephite Sisters, will be the perfect place.

“Art is one of my passions, and I’m hoping to be able to step in and assist with The Arts in my new role.

“It will be a great way for me to get to know my students.”

Sally’s experience includes the role of Assistant Principal Administration at Our Lady of Lourdes School Sunnybank, Acting Principal Our Lady of Lourdes Sunnybank, Acting Principal St Joseph’s School Kangaroo Point, Assistant Principal Religious Education St Joseph’s School Kangaroo Point and Acting Assistant Principal Religious Education St Oliver Plunkett School Cannon Hill.
