A love of teaching inspired the new Principal of St Peter Claver College Riverview, Bruce McPhee, to take the next step in his career.

When the opportunity arose to formally lead a Catholic school community in the Marist tradition, I decided to take a leap of faith and apply,” Bruce says.

“In my first role as Principal, I am enjoying getting to know my new school community and having conversations about what makes the College a special place.

I feel I am part of the College family, developing a shared vocabulary and vision for the College.”

Bruce added that he is “passionate about students belonging.

If a student can come to school and feel safe and be their authentic self, then we have done our job as educators,” he says.

From this point, we can then focus on improving student outcomes, building their capability and enhancing their wellbeing.

Bruce added that he is a keen theatregoer and cannot wait to share his love for the arts with his students.

As a former drama teacher, there is nothing more rewarding than going to a production one of my students has worked on,” he says.

“It is rewarding to know that as educators we can impact a student's future, it makes me feel really proud when I know they have achieved in a field they are passionate about.

“If the students can leave the College thinking about others and how they can positively impact the world around them, then we have been successful in doing our jobs.”
