A GROUP of students from St Elizabeth's Primary School at Tarragindi has been crowned champions of the Primary School Year 6 Pre-Choreographed section at this year's Queensland Cup Sports Aerobics Championship.

The eight students, who call themselves The Shooting Stars, presented their dynamic routine to a huge audience and a panel of five judges at the Edmund Rice Performing Arts Centre Auditorium at South Brisbane on October 16.

Competing against 12 other Queensland primary school finalists, their polished and professional performance impressed both the audience and the judges.

Proud coach Darren Graham said the students could not contain their excitement when they were announced as the winners and “celebrated with cheers of happiness and tears of joy".

“This prestigious award is a great achievement for our students," he said.

“They are to be commended for their dedication, teamwork and amazing energy."

Year 6 student Sophie said the hours of practice the team put in before school, during lunch times, and on weekends had all been worthwhile.

“We've worked extremely hard to reach this stage and are very proud of what we have achieved together," she said.

Fellow team member Abbie said the atmosphere during the day was amazing.

“The audience was so excited," she said.

St Elizabeth's Acting Principal, Bronwyn Stutz, said the entire school community was so proud of the girls.

“They represented our school admirably and this tremendous result is a testament to their consistent effort throughout the year and wonderful mentoring from their coaches," she said.

The team from St Elizabeth's are now looking forward to participating in the Federation of International Sport, Aerobics and Fitness (FISAF) National Finals in December.
