By uniting the four campuses of Southern Cross Catholic College, Principal Christopher Campbell is a true example of what it means to be a united leader.

At Brisbane Catholic Education’s (BCE) Excellence Awards 2025 (Friday 15 August), Christopher was awarded the Archbishop’s Award for Leadership for his commitment to continuity across Southern Cross Catholic College.

Southern Cross Catholic College, Woody Point Head of Campus Aynslee Bale said Christopher has a way of transforming challenges into “opportunities for growth”.

“Since the College has merged into one, Christopher has successfully brought all four Southern Cross Catholic College campuses together into one cohesive and thriving school,” she said.

“Each week, he unites all four leadership teams through a collaborative leadership style that ensures every team feels connected, empowered, and focused on delivering the outcomes that matter most, student growth and achievement.

“His leadership in driving our Explicit Improvement Agenda and Annual Improvement Plan has not only enhanced operational efficiency but also cultivated a deep sense of shared purpose and collective direction across the College.”

Aynslee adds, “his ability to navigate the complexities of leading a multi-campus institution while maintaining laser focus on student outcomes is nothing short of extraordinary”.

“By prioritising alignment among leadership and curriculum teams, he ensures that students experience the same high-quality education across every campus,” she said.

“He thinks broadly, ensuring that every campus and every student matters, and that each child is afforded the same high-quality education and equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of which campus they attend.

“Under his leadership, our College has also undergone significant building improvements at each campus, ensuring modern, functional facilities that support student learning and wellbeing across the board.”

Christopher Campbell said, “to be nominated and have the confidence and support of my team is an incredible honour”.

“This recognition is not about me alone, but about the collective effort of a dedicated group of people working together for our students.”

BCE Senior Leader Glenn McConville said, “Christopher is a very worthy recipient of this significant leadership award”.

“Chris is a strategic, resilient, calm and inspiring leader who sets high expectations and provides high levels of support to his staff and students,” he said.

“Chris' impact on the Southern Cross community has been significant.

“He leads 4 unique and thriving campuses, over 1600 students and 270 staff.

“The school values of service, knowledge and love can be seen through Christopher’s everyday work and with his interactions with others.

“Chris makes a personal connection with staff and students, shows a genuine interest in them, and wants the best for every member of his school community.

“I know the Southern Cross Community is extremely grateful that Christopher is there leading them into a very positive future.”
