With safeguarding at its core and a focus on enhancing our employees’ experience, Brisbane Catholic Education has launched a new SAP Success Factors Human Resource Information System. Named Ignite, the new people system streamlines processes, improves efficiency and prioritises safeguarding, performance and engagement throughout the employee lifecycle.
BCE Information Technology Executive Leigh Williams said Ignite would not only prioritise safeguarding in our community but also allow us to “focus on what truly matters: teaching, challenging, and transforming lives”.
The launch of Ignite allows technology to streamline processes, while supporting staff to aspire to high-performance.
Recognising that a successful transition relied on employee confidence, BCE invested in regular staff engagement, conducted roadshows, and delivered a comprehensive training program to equip staff with the required skills.
Training sessions, a digital adoption platform, support resources, and hands-on learning opportunities were rolled out across core teams, ensuring everyone felt prepared and empowered to use the new system effectively.
BCE People and Culture Executive Cathy Heffernan said Ignite also focused on “the three E’s of Engage, Enhance and Empower”.
“To engage we inspire our people to focus on what matters most,” she said.
“We enhance by improving our employees’ lived experiences in the workplace; and we empower them by giving the tools to support their performance and drive excellence.”
A collective effort: from design to go-live
Cathy said the two year journey to this achievement had been a true team effort, bringing together key stakeholders, business teams, project team, Deloitte as our trusted implementation partner and SAP.
“Every stage, from initial design and system configuration to rigorous testing and change management was carefully executed to ensure a smooth transition for all employees,” she said.
“From the outset, five guiding principles were set and prioritised to ensure the system met the needs for BCE.
“A series of in-depth workshops were conducted with leaders, People and Culture teams, IT teams and key representatives including the voice of BCE schools to capture requirements, design processes, and configure the system with a primary focus on safeguarding.”
Kent Lawrence, Lead Partner from Deloitte said, these sessions ensured that key functionalities, such as employee central, recruitment, onboarding, and performance management, aligned seamlessly with our goals.
“Integrations with existing BCE system was paramount to designing the digital ecosystem for Ignite, together with a combination of our assets and SAP’s, we delivered a user experience that was both intuitive and efficient.” he said.
Approval and testing: ensuring a smooth transition
Throughout the project, approval processes, good project governance, and solution checks and audits were carried out along the journey to ensure that every decision was carefully assessed, tested, and validated.
The system underwent multiple rounds of testing including user acceptance testing (UAT), ensuring that every component was thoroughly reviewed before implementation.
This meticulous approach has enabled BCE to launch with confidence, knowing that this unique partnership is delivering a system that meets their needs.
Ready for success: A future-ready Ignite
With go-live now officially complete, BCE is looking forward to the efficiencies, insights, and enhancements the HRIS system will bring to BCE.
Leigh said the launch ticks all the boxes, “from thoughtful system design and thorough testing to engaging staff and driving successful change management”.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone involved, especially our implementation partner and solution owner, whose expertise and guidance have been instrumental in making Ignite a success,” she said.
As BCE move forward, ongoing support will be available to assist employees in making the most of the new system. Welcome to a new chapter at BCE with Ignite – our people system. Keeping our people at the heart of what we do!
